Collaboration is a SNAP

Last week, members of the Supernova/Acceleration Probe (SNAP) gathered at SLAC for the project's biannual meeting. Over 20 labs and universities from the U.S. and Europe are involved in the satellite project, which is competing for the Joint Dark Energy Mission (JDEM) sponsored by NASA and the Department of Energy (DOE).

SNAP members focused their discussions around the instruments and science of the project to refine the JDEM proposal. The final proposal will face-off against at least two other competitors later this year, and the successful proposal will be announced at the year's close.

"Collaboration meetings are an effective way to assess progress across an entire project," SLAC project leader Aaron Roodman said. "I have no doubt that the SNAP team will present a compelling proposal for studying dark energy."

Updated Purchasing Award Lead Time Chart

SLAC's Purchasing Department has made modifications to the Purchasing Award Lead Time Chart (guidelines for planning procurement actions). There have been increased award lead times to allow for Department of Energy (DOE) approval. The following scenarios will be affected:

- Procurement value ≥ $100,000: Allow 3 to 5 days for DOE approval

- Personal Services Agreements / Consultant Agreements: Allow 3 to 5 days for DOE approval

- Buy American Act exception (>$100K): Allow up to 10 working days for review and approval by DOE's Oak Ridge Operations Office

The new Purchasing Award Lead Time Chart may be accessed on the SLAC Procurement website.
