Behavior Change/Weight Management group to begin in June

Posted: 05/29/2008
The Stanford Health Improvement Program (HIP) will be starting its next Behavior Change/Weight Management group in June. The group will meet 2 Wednesdays a month, from 5:15pm-6:30pm, over the course of 10 months. Participants meet in small groups (10-15 people) with a trained facilitator and set short-term behavioral goals that they work on between sessions. They discuss their progress, obstacles, and strategies with one another. The facilitator also leads a discussion on a topic related either to behavioral science (e.g., staying motivated, build a support network), or on a topic more directly related to weight loss (e.g., nutrition and physical activity). The program does not provide participants with a diet or exercise plan. Rather, our philosophy is that participants come up with their own goals, with input from the facilitator and other group members.

This group is for individuals who:
Can commit to attending most of the group sessions for the full 10 month period
Believe in a gradual approach to behavior change
Like the idea of a long-term program
Do well in a group setting
