Community Bulletin BoardHistory Channel to Feature LHC -- updated
Posted: 03/13/2008
The March 13 edition of SLAC Today announced that the History Channel will premiere a one-hour program called "The Next Big Bang" about the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) on Sunday, March 16, with repeats on March 17-19.
The SLAC Today editors have just learned that the History Channel has decided to delay the show several weeks so they can put it in a better spot and put in more time promoting it. The show will be delayed a week or two and should be on a tuesday night. As soon as this date is confirmed, it will be posted in SLAC Today. When it airs, the show will take viewers on an amazing journey through the 40 years of struggles to plan and build the LHC, including description of how it was constructed and how it will smash protons together at nearly the speed of light. The LHC, which is scheduled to have first beam in June or July, consists of six large-scale physics experiments including the ATLAS (A Toroidal LHC ApparatuS) detector. SLAC is part of the ATLAS collaboration and serves as a Tier 2 Computing Center.
