Complete Description:
EXPERIMENTAL SEMINAR
Thin films of field cooled low-temperature superconductors can trap magnetic vortices if the material is cooled down in the presence of a magnetic field. With progressive cooling, the trapped flux is compressed and this flux compression gives rise to paramagnetic moments in the thin film. We show experimental results of paramagnetic moments in superconducting films and discuss the thermodynamics of the magnetic vortex system and the resulting modifications to the film heat capacity.
