Samuel Bodman to Host DOE All Hands Today

This morning, Secretary of Energy Samuel W. Bodman will host the last all-hands meeting of his tenure. SLAC employees are invited to view live video of the broadcast at 10:00 a.m. in Panofsky Auditorium.

Steven Chu Testifies Before Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee

Lawrence Berkeley National Lab Director Steven Chu was in Washington, D.C., yesterday attending his Senate confirmation hearing for the post of Secretary of Energy. He was asked to comment on a variety of topics including bio-fuels, nuclear reactors and clean coal. According to reports from the Los Angeles Times and the Associated Press, Chu received a positive response from the senators. If confirmed, he will become the first professional scientist to head the Department of Energy. Chu's prepared testimony is available on the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources Web site.

Stanford Offers BeWell Incentives

This month, Stanford renewed its dedication to a culture of wellness with the BeWell @ Stanford Employee Incentive Program, offering staff an opportunity to earn up to $250 in wellness rewards. The program offers annual rewards and new wellness activities on a new Web interface.

BeWell @ Stanford is a three-step program with incentives to learn about fitness. The first step is to take a health and lifestyle assessment online, for which employees can receive a $150 reward. The next step involves a free session to interpret the results. The third step is to put the results into action by creating a wellness plan and enrolling in health-related classes and activities, offered on campus at a reduced rate. Finance Overview for Managers

All new supervisors and department heads with budgetary responsibilities are invited to attend a one-hour training course, Financial Overview. Charlotte Chang of Strategic Financial Planning will present the class on Tuesday, January 20 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Yellow Room, Building 41.
